This paper analyzes the characteristics of early adopters of transgenic cotton varieties in California and explains the factors driving such early adoption. The research was conducted through the use of a mail survey that was distributed to all California cotton growers during December 2000 and January 2001. A response rate of 16% of the 1,300 cotton growers generated a sample size of 206 California cotton growers.
